地震が発生したお正月の夕方、私は実家がある能登に帰省していましたが、幸いその日の夜のうちに自宅のある金沢まで車で移動することができました。闇の中、道路がひび割れ電柱が傾く中を恐る恐る進んだ先に金沢の街の明かりが見えたとき、少しだけ安心できた気がしました。能登の復興がなかなか進まない一方で、金沢の歓楽街の賑わいには大きなギャップを感じざるを得ません。しかしそこで働きあるいは慰めを得る人々の多くが能登に縁があり、彼らは決して能登のことを忘れてはいないはずです。この取り組みが、傷ついた人々や街がお互いを照らし合うささやかな灯火への一助となれば幸いです。

​On the evening of New Year's Day when the earthquake struck, I was returning home to Noto, where my parents live, and fortunately I was able to drive to my home in Kanazawa that night. I felt a little relieved when I saw the lights of Kanazawa city ahead of me in the darkness, with the roads cracked and utility poles leaning. While the reconstruction of Noto is not progressing well, I cannot help but feel a big gap between the bustling entertainment district of Kanazawa and the rest of the city. However, many of the people who work there or find solace there have ties to Noto, and I am sure they have not forgotten about Noto. I hope that this project will help to light a small fire that will shine a light on the damaged people and the city, and on each other.
